Work Experience

  • Little London Horses Ltd - Groom
This is one of my current jobs, I am now a self-employed groom and work mornings at this yard for Peter Folwell. My role is the general yard duties and to ride, we have young or unschooled horses that we train and then sell, riding young or green horses is a brilliant opportunity to improve your riding.

  • Marietta Fox-Pitt, Knowlton Equestrian - Groom
My role as a groom at Knowlton involved riding fit competition horses, handling youngstock, backing and starting horses and preparing horses for competition. I learnt to ride horses with my seat and brain!

  • Compton Stud - Groom
Having not previously been involved with any stud work I wanted to gain some experience and knowledge in this area of the industry. I learnt a lot about breeding here, most of all I learnt that foals are not easy and I did not want to work with them.

  • In The Saddle Holidays - Back up rider
I was the back up rider for an eight day ride from the Cevennes Mountains to the Camargue in South of France. During this job I was responsible for eight horses and also helped to prepare the accommodation each night for our guests who were riding with us.

This job taught me how to think on my feet and cope under pressure, looking after eight horses on a yard with a significant language barrier and culture difference called upon my excellent communication skills!

  • David Rumsey Dressage - Groom
I learnt vast amounts when grooming here, mostly what makes a good walk, trot and canter, but also how to improve the overall image of a horse. My bandaging skills were perfected during my time working here.
